Lagos 2027: Desmond Elliot Declares 4th Lagos Assembly Bid, Lists Achievements

Surulere, Lagos state - Nollywood actor and lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has declared his intention to seek re-election as the representative of Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, saying he remains committed to the community that “has given him everything.”

Elliot addressed a crowd of supporters and residents who gathered to witness his recent declaration in Surulere.

“Surulere has blessed me. I have studied up to doctorate level in legislative studies, which makes me well-grounded in lawmaking,” he said.

Desmond Elliot shares his achievements

At the stakeholders’ parley attended by former Surulere local government chairman Tajudeen Ajide and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Elliot outlined his achievements from his time in office.

He said his interventions had covered infrastructure, health, and energy, claiming over 30 road projects had been facilitated across the constituency.

“I came to the CDA, which is the party at the local government, and also the community development people, to inform them of my intention to run again to represent the good people of Surulere Constituency I,” he said.
“I am overwhelmed by the reception from the CDA, from the local government, from everywhere. It is fantastic. I am very honoured.”

Elliot said drainage maintenance had helped reduce flooding in the area, while also highlighting improvements in electricity supply.

“Flooding used to be a major issue, but last year, you did not hear of flooding in Surulere because we ensured constant desilting of drainage and canals,” he said.
“Today, power supply in Surulere is more stable. We facilitated metering and supported the establishment of an injection substation through collaboration.”

He also referenced support from political stakeholders, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, in driving some of the projects.

‘Experience Over Experiment’: Elliot shares campaign theme

Elliot, who has spent over a decade in the Lagos Assembly, anchored his re-election campaign on continuity.

He said:

“Experience cannot be bought. If you start afresh, it takes years to build. So why waste that time when you can continue with tested experience?”

Desmond Elliot gets endorsements from Nollywood, community leaders

Veteran actor Sunny McDonald, popularly known as ‘Ancestor’, described Elliot as a “winning team,” urging continued support.

“Globally, people say you do not change a winning team. Desmond is a winning team. From the work he has done in Surulere, it is clear he has delivered. We are here to support him and give him a renewed mandate,” he said.

Cornell Udofia, Lagos state director of communications for the Actors Guild of Nigeria, also backed Elliot’s candidacy, citing his experience and record.

“Desmond has been tested and trusted. With his experience and what he has already achieved, I believe he will deliver even more. Experience cannot be bought in the market,” he said.

Community leader Prince Taofeek Dabiri praised Elliot’s responsiveness to constituents’ needs.

“He is very accessible. If you reach out to him, he responds and addresses issues. That is what governance is about,” he said.

Elliot’s declaration signals the start of heightened political activity in Surulere as parties begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Obasa names Hamzat as next governor of Lagos

Legit.ng earlier reported that Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, said that the next governor of the state is Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.

Hamzat, the current deputy governor of the state, had been in the system since the administration of Bola Tinubu as governor in 1999.

However, Obasa posited that President Bola Tinubu endorsed Hamzat's candidacy as the APC flagbearer in the 2027 election.
