Diesel Sells At Over N2,000 per Litre, Data Shows 10 Most Expensive States To Buy

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has disclosed that the average retail price of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) paid by consumers increased to N1,813.81 per litre in June 2025.

The June price reflects a 23.98% increase compared to the N1,462.98 per litre average price recorded in June 2024.

The bureau also noted that the June price represents a 3.16% increase from N1,758.26 in May 2025 on a month-on-month basis.

NBS stated this in its latest Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel) Price Watch report, published on its website.

State diesel price changes

Furthermore, the NBS provided a breakdown of a state-by-state analysis, showing the top three states with the highest average prices for the product.

According to the bureau, in June 2025, the states where Nigerians paid the highest diesel prices per litre were Benue State (N2,541.46), Adamawa State (N2,355.32), and Plateau State (N2,236.42). The top three states with the lowest prices were Ondo State (N1,365.71), Anambra State (N1,391.02), and Kogi State (N1,400.00).

By zonal distribution, the South-South Zone recorded the highest average price at N1,963.86, while the South-West Zone had the lowest at N1,618.74.

Petrol prices change at depots

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the NNPC Limited has announced an increase in the pump price for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) for Nigerians.

The latest change follows recent adjustments experienced at depots and also at Dangote refinery.

The new fuel price at filling stations is expected to cause a transportation fare increase across the country.
