FG Shares 6 Steps To Apply for Free Skill Training, Sets Deadline for Online Registration

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has announced the registration for the second phase of the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative (RHEI).

The initiative is aimed at reducing unemployment through vocational and digital skills tailored to Nigeria's needs.

Silas Agara, NDE Director-General, announced on Monday, July 29, during the unveiling of a new digital platform and the official launch of online registration in Abuja.

Speaking on the unveiling, Agara described the first phase as a huge success.

His words:

“After the success of Phase One, we have enhanced our infrastructure to make Phase Two fully digital."
Robust hardware, software, and internet systems have been deployed across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory."

Agara said more than 30 skill sets would be available and have been tailored to meet the needs of the states it will be offered.

He said:

“The skills vary by state. What’s relevant in Abia may differ from Adamawa, so we have customised training to maximise local opportunities."

He also warned applicants against fraud, stressing that participation is free and only accessible through official NDE channels.

Agara noted.

“No payment is required to participate. Any suspicious activity should be reported to our headquarters or state offices.
"The NDE Renewed Hope Employment Initiative (RHEI) Phase 2 is an initiative of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) aimed at providing unemployed Nigerians with hands-on skills to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial capabilities."

How to apply for FG skills training

Agara stated that registration required a valid National Identification Number (NIN) and residency in any Nigerian state, regardless of state of origin.

According to the NDE, the registration portal is www.nderegistrationportal.ng, and it will remain open from July 28 to August 11, with processing set for August 12 to 22.

The programme targets Nigerians aged 18 to 45 with a valid National Identification Number (NIN) and residency in any part of the country.

Steps to apply

  • Create an account on the portal
  • Kindly input your NIN to start the identity verification process
  • Fill in your personal details and other information
  • Select your preferred programme, scheme and skill set
  • Submit your application, retain your registration number, download the acknowledgement slip, and await further notification
  • Update your state of origin to your state of residence if both are not the same, as verified by NIMC

Nigeria’s unemployment rate becomes 3rd best globally

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the National Bureau of Statistics recently disclosed that Nigeria’s unemployment rate has dropped to 4.1% at the end of the first quarter of 2023.

The bureau stated this in its Labour Force Survey (NLFS) prepared in collaboration with the World Bank and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

The latest figure indicates that Nigeria has suddenly transitioned from having the worst unemployment rate to outperforming countries like the United Kingdom and France.
