UK Government Releases List of Companies Approved To Sponsor Work Visa in 2025

• Companies in the UK are getting licensed companies to sponsor the relocation of skilled workers to the country

The United Kingdom has released its 2025 list of organisations licensed to sponsor skilled workers into the country.

According to checks by Legit.ng, the latest list, updated on Wednesday, January 08, 2025, now includes 125,880 approved companies.

This marks an increase of 26,024 companies compared to the 99,856 approved in January 2024.

The approved companies span various sectors, including technology, commerce, education, media and advertising, engineering, etc.

Persons qualified for skilled worker visa

According to information on the UK government website, Nigerians interested in relocating to the country on a skilled worker visa must have:

• Work for a UK employer that’s been approved by the Home Office
• Have a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ (CoS) from your employer with information about the role you’ve been offered in the UK
• Do a job that’s on the list of eligible occupations
• Be paid a minimum salary - how much depends on the type of work you do and the date you got your CoS

Immigration consultant shares common errors in work visa process

An Ibadan-based immigration consultant, Mobolaji Ogundairo of VisaSavvy Travels, has noted common mistakes Nigerian applicants make when applying for UK work visas, cautioning that such errors often lead to rejections.

“Incomplete documentation – this usually happens when applicants hurriedly apply for the visa and don't fully understand what the embassy is asking from them,” Ogundairo told Legit.ng.

“Imagine submitting an account statement issued by a mobile money app in the place of proof of funds. Only statements of accounts issued from centralized banks are recognised.”

He also flagged inconsistencies in submitted documents, noting: “Mr A's personality in writing, on the internet and as described by their employer are all contrasting. Big red flag.”

Ogundairo added that applicants sometimes present suspicious job offers.

“When the job they are applying for appears to be too good to be true,” he said, “it usually is.”

Consular officers spot poor planning, false sponsorship

On poor documentation practices, he warned that “consulars can easily spot a half-baked documentation.”

Another major issue, according to Ogundairo, is failing to show sufficient home ties.

“Travel history – if you have breached any international travel law in the past, it can haunt you for years on all other visa applications,” he added.

Ogundairo also emphasised the importance of proper sponsorship documentation:

“On a work visa, the employer should be the primary sponsor of the visa application. Stating otherwise is a red flag on its own. On paper, the employer should be the person doing the funding and not any other person.”

Lastly, he clarified the misconception around bank balances:

“Not really big on hefty amounts in the applicant’s account, but a decent amount to show financial independence – so that the person won't be a liability if he/she and the employer falls out. You can still take care of yourself.”

UK approves new salary requirement

Ealier, Legit.ng reported that the United Kingdom has announced an increase in the salary requirements for the Skilled Worker visa route.

The government explained that these salary adjustments aimed to prioritise highly skilled and well-compensated professionals.

The changes mean that Nigerians looking to relocate to the UK for work will have to secure high-paying jobs.
