Diamond League Final: Julien Alfred Beats Sha’Carri Richardson in Women’s 100m

Julien Alfred beat Sha'Carri Richardson to win the women's 100m Diamond KLeague title.

The Olympic 100m Olympic champion clocked 10.88 seconds to win her first Diamond League title.

Dina Asher-Smith was third in 10.92 seconds, while Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith was third in 11.05 seconds. Richardson finished eighth in 11.23 seconds.

Alfred went into the Diamond League final after losing to Richardson in the Zurich Diamond League and was looking to avenge her defeat.

The Saint Lucia hero was quick off the blocks and was certain to win after 50m. However, Dina Asher-Smith posed a threat but Alfred held her off to secure the win.

Meanwhile, Richardson was beaten early and was certain to finish out of the top three.

Alfred bagged her first-ever Diamond League title after a successful Olympic Games in which she won gold and silver medals.

She upset Richardson to win gold in the women's 100m and finished second behind Gabby Thomas in the 200m.

It has been a historic season for the young sprinter, and her rivalry with Richardson will surely dominate headlines next year as they prepare to face off in the 2024 World Athletics Championships in Japan.

Earlier, Julien Alfred defeated Sha'Carri Richardson to win the women's 100m final at the Paris Olympics.

Nigerian athlete sets new record

Legit.ng also reported that Nigerian athlete Onyinyechi Mark won the country's first gold at the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympics, setting a tournament and world record in the process.

Mark is one of the best powerlifters in the world and lifted a record-breaking 147kg in the 61kg weight category to win the gold medal, Nigeria’s first at the tournament.
