A Nigerian man said converting a Canadian visitor visa into a work visa is very easy, provided some conditions are met.

In a video he shared on TikTok, the man said one of the things that fast-tracks Canadian visa conversion is the possession of relevant skills.

Vicktor advised that once one receives a visitor visa, the person should start learning a skill such as truck driving, which is in high demand in some provinces in Canada. He said truck driving could fetch as much as N52 million per year in Canada.

He noted that once the person learned a relevant skill in Nigeria, the person could proceed to Canada with a visitor visa.

Due to the skills, Vicktor said converting the visitor visa to a work visa on arrival in Canada would become easier.

Information on the Canadian Government websites specifies the procedure through which applicants can follow. However, issuance of work permits to immigrants residing in Canada with a visit visa would no longer be possible after February 28, 2025.

The information reads in part:

"Foreign nationals who are in Canada as visitors and who receive a valid job offer will continue to be able to apply for and receive a work permit without having to leave the country. Visitors applying under this public policy who held a work permit within the last 12 months will also continue to be able to request interim work authorization to begin working for their new employer more quickly."

The information clarifies that before now, it was impossible to stay in Canada with a visit visa and the same time, apply for a work permit. The visitor would need to leave Canada before applying for a work permit.

It states:

"Prior to this temporary policy change, those applying to work in Canada would typically need to apply for their initial work permit before they came to Canada. If they were already in Canada with visitor status when they were approved for a work permit, they would need to leave Canada to be issued their work permit. With this policy in place, leaving Canada isn’t necessary."
