It's a lie, hoodlums didn’t invade PVC registration centre, Lagos police insist

  • The news that police invaded St. Bridget Catholic Church ljesha, Surulere area of Lagos state has been faulted by the police
  • Recall that there had been reports that hoodlums allegedly disrupted voter registration and also carted away INEC’s registration machines and other items

Following media reports that hoodlums on Friday, August 29, invaded St. Bridget Catholic Church ljesha, Surulere area of the state to disrupt voter registration by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Lagos state Police Command has faulted says the report is not true.

The police in a terse statement on his Twitter handle explained that the INEC officials were assigned to another location and not the church’s premises.

The news that police invaded St. Bridget Catholic Church ljesha, Surulere area of Lagos state has been faulted by the police.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in the statement said:

“The INEC officials were assigned to Imam Thani Street by House No 9A for today’s exercise. They were, however, found within the church premises.
“Residents raised concerns and informed the police. The DPO Ijeshatedo swung into action and brought the INEC officials to the station.
“Preliminary findings show that a resident of the area who volunteered to transport the officials from their office to the center was responsible for the mix-up, deliberate or not. Further investigation will reveal
“Meanwhile, the officials were immediately released to proceed to the correct centre to continue their assignment.”

Electoral crime? Police arrest INEC officials who used church as registration centre

Some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) identified as Ikechukwu Izuchukwu and Agbokhna Ebigun have been arrested by the Lagos State police command for carrying out Voters registration centre at a church in the state.

They were arrested after residents of Ijeshatedo, Surulere, Lagos, raised an alarm. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Spokesman of the Lagos state police command, in a series of tweets confirmed the arrest of the INEC officials, saying they were found within the church premises registering members.

He said:

“The INEC officials were assigned to Imam Thanni Street by House 9A for today’s exercise. They were, however, found within the church premises. Residents raised concerns and informed the police. The DPO Ijeshatedo swung into action and brought the INEC officials to the station.
