Ooni of Ife celebrates 6th year coronation anniversary, says Nigeria's unity not negtiable

OSOGBO, Osun - Yoruba monarch, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has called on descendants of the Yoruba race to eschew disunity and rather, embrace unity and ensure that there is no division among them.

This he says even as he also declared that the unity of the Nigerian entity was not negotiable.

Punch reports that the Ooni made the declaration during an event held in his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun state to mark the sixth year of his coronation on Tuesday.

Legit.ng gathered that the Ooni said that everyone must ensure to speak at all times with one voice and prevent issues such as religion, politics or any other matter from setting us apart.

Speaking, he said:

“Our unity is non-negotiable and this is the best time that such irreplaceable virtue is needed the most. We must speak with one voice at all times as we prevent politics, religion or other biases from setting us apart.

According to him, in whatever we do, we must ensure that we are aware of the fact that many others all around us are watching and as such we cannot afford to let the world down. This, especially to those looking in our direction for leadership.

Speaking on his experience within the last six years on the royal stool, Ooni Ogunwusi noted that there had been moments of challenges but that these were eventually defeated through the support and love he enjoyed from his subjects.

In a statement issued by Moses Olafare, the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, in Osogbo disclosed that an interdenominational prayer session by the three major religions, the Ife Muslim community, the Christian Association of Nigeria as well as traditional worshippers had been held at the palace on Tuesday.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that the Ooni recently visited President Muhammadu Buhari where he said he had spoken with the president regarding the continued detention of Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho in Benin Republic.

The monarch revealed that he informed the president that Igboho had rejected the advice offered him by the mnarchs who visited him.

Ooni said he explained to the president reasons behind the agitation being championed by Igboho.
