Governor Obiano Places N20m Bounty on Killers of Dora Akunyili’s Husband, Others
- Governor Obiano has reacted to the killing of Dr Chike Akunyili and other people in Anambra state
- The Anambra governor expressed sadness over the security crisis in the state and placed N20 million bounty on the perpetrators of the attacks
- Obiano also called on the youths, traditional rulers and other stakeholders in the state to assist the security agencies in restoring peace
Awka, Anambra state - Governor Willie Obiano has announced N20 million reward for anyone who has useful information that can lead to the arrest of those behind the gruesome murder of Dr Chike Akunyili and other heinous attacks in Anambra state.
The Anambra governor made this known during his address posted on Facebook on Wednesday, September 29.
Obiano lamented that some armed persons have unleashed terror with sporadic attacks on innocent citizens in various parts of the state in the past few days.
10 people killed in three days
Governor Obiano noted that 10 people were killed in various parts of the state between Sunday, September 26, and Tuesday, September 28, including Dr Chike Akunyili, husband of late Prof Dora Akunyili.

He added that offices of some political parties in the state, including branded campaign vehicles and individuals occupying them, have been attacked with killings and burning of vehicles observed.
The governor said:
"Ndi Anambra, these attacks and accompanying deaths cannot be justified and must stop now.
"I have therefore conducted an extensive security meeting and have directed all Security Agencies to step up and confront this monster ravaging our land. I charge everyone involved in the security architecture of Anambra State to take very seriously, this threat to our livelihood and boldly rise to confront same.
"Everything that needs to be done will be done and no stone will be left unturned in this effort. My directive to this effect is clear and I urge every security personnel on duty in Anambra state to do his utmost best to secure our people."
Obiano calls for cooperation of youths, traditional rulers
The Anambra governor also called on all youths in the state to rise up and protect their communities.
He also charged traditional rulers, clerics, vigilante groups and all leadership structures in the state to take responsibility and assist security agencies to restore order immediately.
The governor continued:
"To reinforce our commitment and seriousness on this issue, I on behalf of the State Government, wish to announce a twenty million Naira (N20,000,000.00) reward for any useful information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators of these heinous attacks on our State. The people behind this must be unmasked and brought to book.

"I urge citizens to report to us, anybody bearing a firearm who is not a Security or Vigilante personnel, so we can deal with this monster, once and for all. Call 07039194332 or approach any Security deployment if you have any information. As the Americans say, IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING."
Condolence to the families of the lost ones
Governor Obiano also condoled with the families of all those who have lost their loved ones in the course of the attacks.
He promised that his administration will leave no stone unturned in getting justice for them and prayed for their souls to rest in peace.
Anambra LP guber candidate’s whereabouts unknown
Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the November 6, 2021 election in Anambra state, Obiora Agbasimelo, is missing, fuelling speculations that he has been kidnapped.
The whereabouts of Agbasimelo was unknown. The emergence of the lawyer and brother to the founder of the popular foundation, Oga Ndi Oga as LP’s governorship candidate came on the heels of crisis in the party.
The crisis reportedly threw up a faction and the erstwhile leading aspirant, a military officer, Nnamdi Nnoruka, was allegedly kidnapped and moved around parts of the state in the booth of his car.
