Angry Youths Burn Commissioner's House, Traditional Ruler's Car in Sokoto, Accuse Them of Working with Bandits

Isa LGA - Angry youths have set ablaze the country home of Col. Garba Moyi (rtd), the commissioner of security and career studies in Sokoto state.

The Punch reported that the irate youths burned down the house which is located in Isa local government area of the state.

Legit.ng gathers that the youths took the action after accusing the commissioner of complicity with bandits who attack the area.

Channels TV reported that the youths also burned the vehicle belonging to the traditional ruler of Isa, Sarkin Gobir Alhaji Nasiru Ahmad, who was equally accused of conniving with bandits.

It was gathered that trouble started when youths in the village invited the commissioner to discuss incessant banditry in the area but he reportedly failed to honour the invitation.

Commissioner confirms attack

Meanwhile, Moyi has reportedly confirmed the arson on his residence. He, however, claimed that political opponents were behind the attack.

He said:

“It is true that youths attacked my house at Isa local government. They overpowered the security man in the house and set the house ablaze.
“I am yet to visit the area to ascertain the extent of damage to the house; but I can confirm that no life was lost. For now, I cannot say anything further, as investigation is ongoing by the Police.”

The spokesman of the Sokoto state police command, Sanusi Abubakar, said investigations were ongoing to unravel the causes of the incident.

Abubakar who disclosed that five persons were already in custody assured that police would get to the root of the matter and urged the citizens to remain calm.

Bombardments: Fleeing bandits abduct 20 villagers in Sokoto community

Meanwhile, bandits suspected to be fleeing Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aerial bombardments in the Bakura-Talata Mafara axis of Zamfara state on Tuesday, September 7 stormed Dange Shuni local government area of Sokoto and kidnapped at least 20 residents.

Residents of the Dange Shuni local government area said communities in the area were witnessing an influx of bandits recently.

Many bandits’ leaders and their foot soldiers have been killed during the military raids.

Bandits are terrorists

Meanwhile, Abubakar Bagudu, the governor of Kebbi state has expressed concerns over the activities of bandits causing havoc across the country.

According to the governor, whoever carries arms and terrorises people in an organised manner should be also declared terrorist.
