Ondo - Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Monday, June 7, advised Ondo residents to consume more pork than beef as the intake of the former will save millions of naira which the state is losing due to the supply of the latter.
The governor said this during the commissioning of the Ultra Modern Piggery Project at Ilutoro in Akure North local government area of the state.
In a statement shared on Facebook through his chief press secretary, Richard Olatunde, he noted that the piggery project is expected to employ 4000 youths and women in the value chain process.
Moreover, the Ondo governor vowed that his administration is poised to encourage the production of a homegrown alternative in piggery and pig processing, so as to address the ugly trend of the capital flight leaving the state weekly on beef consumption.
He declared:
“Pig as we all know is very prolific, as such, rate of return on investment is high. This will undoubtedly translate to increased wealth for our farmers.
“At this juncture, we need to point out the value addition initiatives of our administration which has culminated in the establishment of a number of agro-allied industries. Worthy of mention is the Sunshine Chocolate Factory at Alade-Idanre for value addition to cocoa."
Akeredolu makes clarification on constitution review comment
Meanwhile, Akeredolu had disassociated himself from claims that he was agitating for the scrapping of the Senate.
Speaking through Donald Ojogo, the Ondo state commissioner for information and orientation, Akeredolu on Wednesday, June 2, described the report as a product of interpretative error.
