Breaking: 5 Killed as Gunmen Attack Imo Police Headquarters Again
- An early morning attack on the Imo state police command headquarters in Owerri, Imo state, was repelled by gallant officers of the Nigeria Police Force
- Some of the gunmen sustained injuries, while five of them were killed as they exchanged fire with security operatives
- The latest attack comes two months after gunmen also attacked the federal prison and police headquarters in April

Imo state - Hoodlums masquerading as unknown gunmen attempted an attack on the Police Headquarters in Owerri, the Imo state capital on Sunday morning, June 6, but suffered a huge defeat.
In a statement sent to Legit.ng, the hoodlums were reported to have made effort to access the Police Headquarters through Works Layout around Avan Nursery and Primary School.
Gallant security operatives were prepared for them as they vehemently repelled the attack.
The police spokesman in the southeast state, Bala Elkana, said the attackers came in a white Hummer bus.
It was the end for five of the hoodlums who met their death during an exchange of fire. Others were said to have sustained injuries.
Some of the items recovered include two AK47 rifles and the Hummer bus.
Early morning attack in April
This is coming less than two months after gunmen also attacked the federal prison and the police command headquarters in the state.
Legit.ng had reported that there is pandemonium in Imo in the early hours of Monday, April 5, following the attack by unknown gunmen on the facility.
According to the report, the hoodlums broke the prison facility with the aid of explosives and dynamite. They also freed some prisoners.
Unknown gunmen strike again
Unknown gunmen allegedly invaded the Orji area in Owerri, the Imo state capital and its environs, on Thursday, June 3, killing three persons in different locations.

The operation reportedly started at about 5:30 pm and lasted for more than an hour, as the armed men moved around the area shooting sporadically.
Legit.ng reported that the hoodlums, who wore black clothes, reportedly drove freely in two vehicles, a bus, and a Hilux van.
The victims were a woman and two men among which was a truck driver
