Nigerian Governor Reveals why he still Respects PDP After Defecting to APC

- Governor Ben Ayade has maintained that he left the platform of the PDP for the sake of President Muhammad Buhari

- Ayade made this known on Thursday, June 3, following his first visit to the Nigerian leader in Aso Rock as an APC governor

FCT, Abuja - The governor of Cross River state, Prof Ben Ayade on Thursday, June 3, stated that he still respects the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for what it did for him after joining the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Nigerian Tribune reports that Ayade made this known to State House correspondents after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The governor insisted that he left the opposition party for the sake of President Buhari, conceding however that the main opposition party made him what he is.

Ayade emphasized that he is a strong governor who has risen beyond party lines and ethnic lines by virtue of his education and exposure.

He revealed that his decision to join APC is generating a lot of concern for the PDP occasioned by the fact that the departure came as a rude shock.

Ayade announces defection to APC

The governor of Cross River state announced his defection from the PDP to the ruling party on Thursday morning, May 20, during a meeting with some APC governors who paid him a visit at the government house.

Ayade during his announcement suggested that his defection would enable cross River state to benefit more from the federal government.

The APC has confirmed the defection of Governor Ayade via its Twitter handle.

Governor Ayade on why he decamped to the ruling party

Ayade had earlier credited President Buhari for his decision to dump the opposition party. The Cross River state governor said the president has a nationalistic view and hence, the reason why he joined the APC.

According to him, it is necessary for everybody to join the president to move the country forward. He said all governors should leave politics aside and do everything to commit themselves to the vision of the country.
