Updated: 4 Officers, 3 Others Killed as Armed Robbers Attack Banks, Police Station in Southwest State

Apomu, Ikire, Osun state - Armed robbers on Wednesday evening, June 2, attacked two new generation banks and a police station in Apomu and Ikire in Osun state, The Nation reported.
The newspaper added that many residents were feared dead in the ugly incidents, noting that the robbers invaded the two communities around 6pm, shooting sporadically.
They were said to have stormed Apomu before moving to Ikire, Legit.ng gathers.
A resident of Ikire, who simply identified himself as Sola, said the robbers invaded the community around 5.55pm, shooting sporadically.
The spokesperson of the Osun state police command, SP Yemisi Opalola, has reportedly confirmed the incident.
In an updated report of the incident, The Punch stated that the Osun state police command on Thursday, June 3, said seven people, including two police officers and two constabularies, lost their lives during the attacks
The command spokesperson, Opalola, said some armed robbers numbering 35 at about 6.10pm on Wednesday attacked two commercial banks in Ikire and Apomu.
She said the robbers were, however, repelled by the combined team of police operatives and local security outfits and were forced to flee to the bush.
According to her, the three residents that were killed during the attack were shot by the robbers who she said were shooting sporadically after the police operatives and local security groups engaged them.
She said:
“It is unfortunate that ASP Osho Oluranti, Inspector Lekan Olalere, Two (2) Special Constabularies; namely Oladeni Olalekan, and Oyedeji Muyideen were shot dead in the process."
The police spokesperson added that the robbers did not succeed in robbing any of the banks, noting that they fled to the bush with gunshot wounds, abandoning two of the operational vehicles they came with.
Opalola said remains of the victims had been deposited at Oluyoro Catholic Hospital morgue, Apomu, adding that effort is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing robbers.
According to the newspaper, the robbers were said to have entered Apomu and Ikire through Ikoyi town and divided themselves into different groups before they launched attacks on the police stations and the affected banks.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that robbers invaded 10 houses in Ifelodun, Kuburatu-Agbede, and other parts of the Ifako-Ijaiye local government area of Lagos state within the space of three days.
The incident has caused panic and residents now live in fear of the robbers returning for another raid.
Residents said about 15 armed men raided the vicinity around 1am, snatched a car belonging to a resident, and shot three persons attempting to stop their operations.
In another related development, a police inspector and two others were shot dead on Tuesday, March 30, when dare-devil armed robbers raided the Issele-Uku branch of a new generation bank in Delta state.
The robbers attacked the bank with bullets and dynamites before launching another assault on a police station in the community.
They drove away in two vehicles with an undisclosed sum of money.
