According to him, a new generation of leaders are needed in Nigeria to surmount the appalling level of poverty, insecurity, unemployment, and infrastructural deficit afflicting the country.
He decried the role of money and godfatherism in determining the choice of those who occupy leadership positions in the country, stressing that the situation was responsible for bad leadership plaguing the country.
His words:
“You must have money at your disposal, every single element required to turn the machinery of politics in Nigeria requires money – usually known as mobilisation. Everywhere you go, every speech you give, every time you see your constituents, everyone and everything requires money.
“If you do not spend, you are considered unserious and not ready for the position. In the game of power, money comes first, money comes last, and money is everything in between. Money, power, respect.
“Unfortunately godfatherism is a reality in the context of Nigerian politics and exists primarily for furthering or personal agendas. The godfathers empower people who are placeholders and stooges that can be manipulated and ordered around.”
Audu is the son of a former governor of Kogi state, late Prince Abubakar Audu.
Meanwhile, a legacy group of the ruling APC under the aegis of APC Legacy Awareness and Campaign has said the Buhari-led administration has been laying a foundation for Nigeria's greatness.
According to the group, a lot of the investments and reforms being made currently should have been done long before now by successive Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration.
In a statement sent to Legit.ng on Wednesday, June 2, the group said if the opposition PDP and its leadership want to join in criticising and opposing the APC administration, it must do so by presenting to Nigerians what they did comparatively during their 16-year stewardship.
In a related development, the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has boasted that no Nigerian president has ever accomplished what the Buhari-led administration has achieved since coming into power in 2015.
Alhaji Mohammed commented at a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, June 1 focused on the mid-term report of the administration's second term in office.
