Unlike El-Rufai, Nigerian Governor Slashes Students' Tuition Fees

Oyo - In a bid to alleviate the pains of students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Governor Seyi Makinde has slashed their tuition fees by 25%, Daily Nigerian reports.

Added to the good news, Governor Makinde promised the institution that he will do everything in the capacity of his administration to make sure there is a smooth academic programme in the school, adding that “never again will a four-year programme turn to eight-year programme in the school.”

Not only that, the Oyo governor on Tuesday, June 1, announced that his government has completed the Under-G road at the second gate of the institution to significantly reduce accidents that occurred along the expressway outside the school’s main gate.

He, therefore, encouraged the students to be dedicated to their studies and shun vices that will militate against the government’s efforts to make the school attain greater heights.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strike in Kaduna, forced Governor Nasir El-Rufai to take what might have been seen as a very harsh decision on protesting civil servants.

In a statement published via Facebook on Tuesday, May 18, the state government announced its resolve to immediately dismiss all civil servants who took part in what it referred to as an unlawful strike.

This decision which came through the ministry of health in the state specifically affects nurses on level 14.

While their salaries will be given as extraordinary occupational allowances to the health workers who are at their duty posts, the ministry has been ordered to advertise vacancies for the immediate employment of new nurses to replace those sacked.

Even more, the government threatened that the same punishment would be mete to all academic staff of KASU who fails to report for work.
