Godswill Obioma: How my Father Died, NECO Registrar’s Son

The son of Godswill Obioma, the late registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO), has revealed the cause of his father's death.

In a message sent to Mustapha Abdul, NECO's director of human resources management, Obioma's son said his father passed on to glory after a brief illness.

The short letter read:

“Dear Sir, this is to formally inform you that my father, Prof. Godswill Obioma, the registrar/chief executive officer of NECO passed to eternal glory yesterday 31/5/2021 after a brief illness."

Confirming this position in an interview with Premium Times, Obioma's aide, Obinna Otumdi, disclosed that his boss died from a brief sickness.

Meanwhile, some Nigerians had aired their views on social media following the death of Obioma.

While some media reports claim Obioma was allegedly killed by gunmen suspected to be assassins, the police and NECO officials stated that the registrar died of natural causes.

The NECO registrar's death had, however, generated controversies online with some speculating that it might have been a political assassination or a cover-up.
