Ebonyi state - One suspected member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been shot dead by the police while six others were arrested in Ebonyi state.
The spokesperson for the Ebonyi police command, Loveth Odah, made the disclosure on Tuesday, June 1, The Nation reported.
According to Odah, the IPOB members were arrested when police officers were dispersing hoodlums who were enforcing the sit-at-home order by the secessionist group.
She disclosed that the officers were deployed to the scene after the police were informed that hoodlums had barricaded Ogbaga road, attacking and setting vehicles ablaze.
The spokesperson said:
“The hoodlums on sighting the police opened fire.
“In the exchange of gun battle that ensued two members of the gang were fatally wounded while others escaped with bullet wounds into the nearby bush.''
Odah said one locally-made shotgun, a locally-made revolver pistol with five live cartridges, one jack knife, one axe, and some charms were recovered from the suspects.
She explained that two IPOB suspects on surveillance mission were intercepted in front of the police headquarters in the state, Peopled Gazette reported.

Odah disclosed that one locally made double barrel short gun with four cartridges was recovered from them.
She said one other suspect was killed after the police and sister security agencies engaged his gang in a gun duel on the Ikwo/Abakaliki expressway.
Meanwhile, the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, May 31, faulted the proscribed IPOB's sit-at-home order.
Wike explained that the group cannot issue an order to Rivers people to sit at home. According to him, Rivers is a south-south state in the Niger Delta and not one of the southeastern states.
He made the disclosure while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, adding that he is not against the activities of the outlawed group in the southeast region of the country.
