Wike Reveals why IPOB Cannot Give Sit-At-Home Order in Rivers

- Governor Nyesom Wike has reacted to IPOB's sit-at-home directive that restricted both human and vehicular movements

- According to Wike, the group can not issue such a directive in Rivers because IPOB does not exist in the south-south state

Port Harcourt, Rivers state - The governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, May 31, faulted the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)'s sit-at-home order.

Wike explained that the group cannot issue an order to Rivers people to sit at home. According to him, Rivers is a south-south state in the Niger Delta and not one of the southeastern states.

He made the disclosure while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, adding that he is not against the activities of the outlawed group in the southeast region of the country.

Speaking further, the governor noted that IPOB does not exist in Rivers state.

This development is coming as the streets in Owerri, Imo state capital were empty following the observation of the order by residents.

While vehicular movements were grounded, businesses, schools, and other major economic hubs in the state were closed.

Umahi speaks on IPOB's sit-at-home order in Ebonyi

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi has reacted to the sit-at-home order issued by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra in the state recently.

In a statement on Saturday, May 29, the governor countered the order of the proscribed southeast group and urged residents to go about their usual daily activities boldly.

Umahi warned that traders stand a chance of forfeiting their shops if they refuse to go to marketplaces due to fear of being attacked.

The Imo government also directed residents of the state to ignore a sit-at-home order declared by the proscribed IPOB.

Declan Emelumba, the commissioner for information and strategy, made this known during a press briefing on Thursday, May 27.

The commissioner urged residents of the state to go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation.
