Don’t avenge Ahmed Gulak’s death, Shehu Sani begs northern youths

(Abuja, Nigeria) Shehu Sani, a former senator has weighed in on the murder of Ahmed Gulak, a former political aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, The Punch reports
Recall that Gulak, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was killed on Sunday, May 30, in Owerri, Imo state capital, on his way to the airport by unknown gunmen.
The former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central in a statement on Monday, May 31, begged northern youths against avenging the murder of Gulak, saying it was an attempt to cause inter-tribal conflict.

He said the incident had all the elements of some forces trying to trigger an inter-ethnic war between northerners and Igbos in Nigeria.
The former Kaduna senator while condemning the gunmen's action pleaded with his kinsmen in the north to avoid a major conflict with the Igbo.
He went on to note that since the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) had dissociated themselves from the murder, it showed Gulak's death was a purely criminal action, P.M News added.
While appealing to the police and other security agencies to do a diligent investigation, Sani asked them to also look beyond hurried finger-pointing.

Sani had earlier reacted to the murder of Gulak, a former political aide to ex-president Jonathan.
In a series of tweets on Sunday, May 30, the human rights activist said it is time to track the "unknown gunmen" down and take action.
The former lawmaker lamented that road travellings in some parts of the country have become a "dangerous expedition and a hellish experience."
Police reveal identities of Ahmed Gulak’s killers
Meanwhile, the police in Imo state has said that the killers of Gulak, are members of the secessionist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its security arm, Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Bala Elkana, the spokesperson for the Imo police command made the claim in a statement via Facebook on Sunday, May 30.
He said Gulak’s killers were traced to their location within Imo where they were shot dead during a gun battle with police operatives.
