Some people have lost their jobs in Cross River state. This comes as the state governor, Ben Ayade, sacked four commissioners from his cabinet.
The sack was announced by Mr Christian Ita, special adviser to the governor on media and publicity, Channels TV reports.
The affected commissioners are Mike Usibe (New City Development), Rita Ayim (Women Affairs), Asu Okang (Information), and Ntufam Etim (Climate Change).
Governor Ayade also relieved five other appointees – who include Leo Inyambe, Orok Duke, Victor Okon, John Bassey, and Mbeh Agbiji – of their appointments.
Meanwhile, there was no reason given for the governor’s action.
Recall that Legit.ng reported that Ben Ayade said he appointed 38,000 political aides to tackle poverty in the state. The governor who on Thursday, May 20, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) said the appointment is to afford him the “emotional and social temperature” to discharge his duties.
He was quoted to have said:
“In politics talk is cheap. I have history. I know clearly that poverty is extreme and I decided to bring 38,000 young people into the dining table to allow me the emotional and social temperature to take advantage of my business connection to bring value to Cross River state."
Making reference to the constitution, Governor Ayade said the primary purpose of government is the welfare and security for the people.
Also, recall that barely six months after Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), another opposition governor joined the ruling party.
As expected, the defection of Governor Ayade of Cross River state attracted diverse reactions from Nigerians on social media. Legit.ng collected some of the insightful ones.
Popular social media influencer, JJ. Omojuwa, @Omojuwa, said:
"I guess Ben Ayade and Nyesom Wike couldn’t mend their differences. Ben Ayade has now transferred himself to the APC."
