Good News for Nigerians as Presidency Approves N200b for National Housing Project

- The President Buhari administration is not relenting in its efforts to make good its efforts to bring Nigerians out of poverty

- The presidency on Sunday, May 30, announced that it has approved the sum of N200 billion for a national housing project

- Laolu Akande, a presidential media aide, disclosed that the housing scheme will benefit at least 1.5 million Nigerians

The presidency has revealed its plan to fund a National Social Housing Programme (NSHP) to benefit not less than 1.5 million Nigerians.

In a statement made available to Legit.ng, the presidency said the federal government with the support of the ministry of finance, the federal government has finalised plans with the Central Bank of Nigeria to fund the massive project.

Speaking further on the project, Laolu Akande, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity in the office of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, noted that the aim is to citizens acquire low-cost houses through mortgage and also rent to Own options.

Akande added that the scheme is expected to also generate jobs for not less than 1.8 million citizens.

Also, the presidency said the Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP) Solar Naija programme, intended to supply electricity to "five million households, serving about 25 million Nigerians in rural areas and under-served urban communities nationwide, has recorded some progress."

The presidential media aide noted:

"One of the local solar power companies implementing aspects of the ESP Solar Power Naija scheme, A-SOLAR, which will deliver 100,000 units across the country in the first phase of the project, received some boost, with the completion of the disbursement of funds from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)."

Meanwhile, President Buhari's administration disclosed that more than one million Nigerians have benefitted from the ESP, with about 500,000 Nigerians beneficiaries from the MSMEs Payroll support track, 44,500 beneficiaries under the one-off General MSME Grant, and another 265,425 under the artisan support track.

Besides, there are also 202, 494 Nigerians who have registered their business names for free.
