Breaking: Officers Killed as Hoodlums Bomb NIS Office, Torch Police Station in Abia, Release Suspects

- Structures belonging to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) in Abia were attacked on Saturday, May 29

- The terror was carried out by an armed gang who reportedly killed at least three personnel of NIS and the force

Armed thugs in Abia on Saturday, May 29, attacked the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) located in the located in Ubakala, Umuahia south local government area of the state.

PM News reports that apart from allegedly killing a NIS officer, the hoodlums were reported to have shot dead two police personnel.

This happened after the criminals raided a station of the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) at Umuagu, Umuahia, Daily Trust also reported.

It was gathered that the gunmen released suspects detained in the station before burning the building alongside vehicles parked in front of it.

However, at the time of writing this report, the police command in the state was yet to confirm the terrifying developments.

Previous attacks in Abia

Meanwhile, Bende local government area of Abia state had been thrown into pandemonium as gunmen invaded Ubani Market police station in the community and set it on fire.

The attack was perpetrated by some hoodlums on Sunday, May 9. It was gathered that no life was lost, though police officers working at the station were forced to relocate to a nearby TradeMoore housing estate as insecurity rises in the southeast region.

Legit.ng noted that there had been continued violence in the southeast with many security officers losing their lives in the process.

Recent ugly developments in Abia point to the fact that criminals were trying to make a strong statement and a threatening impression.

Another set of gunmen on Thursday, May 13, set ablaze the police divisional headquarters in the Bende local government area of the state.

The armed gang invaded the station and went ahead to open fire on officers. The criminals burnt vehicles parked within the building.
