Insecurity: Gov Umahi Gives Shoot-at-Sight Order in Southeast
- Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has given security agencies in the southeast a g-ahead to shoot-at-sight their attackers
- Governor Umahi who is also the chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum, made the declaration while receiving a top police chief
- The governor said security operatives cannot afford to standby and watch as unknown gunmen launch repeated attacks on them and their facilities

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi has ordered the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and other security agencies in the southeast to shoot anyone or group of persons that try to attack them or destroy their facilities in the region.
The governor gave the charge in Abakaliki while receiving the visiting Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the southeast zone, DIG Joseph Egbunike.
Governor Umahi who doubles as the chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum stated that the move is important so security operatives can protect themselves and their facilities in the region.

Nigerian Tribune quoted him as saying:
“I charge security agents to engage anyone who attacks them as it is stupid for you to be holding a gun and someone will kill and sn*atch your gun.”
Earlier, DIG Egbunike had told the governor that he was in the state to seek support for the new security initiative tagged “Operation Restore Peace” in the entire southeast.
Meanwhile, Imo state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has appealed to Igbo youths to give peace a chance in Nigeria.
The governor made the comment during his address at the National Assembly Constitutional Review Committee public hearing for Imo and Abia states, held in Owerri on Wednesday, May 26.
He urged the Igbo youths to see the ongoing public hearing for the 1999 constitutional review as a key opportunity to be duly represented and take the rightful place Igbos deserve.
On his part, a Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Robert Achiaga has advised the governments at all levels in Nigeria to embrace dialogue with aggrieved groups in order to end violent agitations in the country.
Fr. Achiaga made the call while speaking to Legit.ng during an exclusive interview held in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja recently.
He said violent agitations are caused by people who have tried to express themselves but were not given attention.
