BREAKING: Unknown Gunmen Attack Police Station in Delta, Kill 3 Policemen

- Another attack on a police station in Delta state has left three galant policemen dead causing panic

- The early morning attack on the police facility was resisted by gallant security operatives but two of them were shot dead

- The third policeman died due to an existing medical condition triggered by the attack on the facility

Three policemen have been killed in Delta after unknown gunmen attacked a police station in the state.

While two of the policemen died during an exchange of fire with the criminals, one of the officers whose high blood pressure was triggered during the attack later died in the hospital.

A statement from the spokesman of the Delta state police command, Edafe Bright, seen by Legit.ng, revealed that the gunmen were repelled during the attack.

According to the statement, the armed men in their numbers marched to Umutu police station at about 1.30 am in the early hours of Friday, May 28, and shot sporadically at the station.

It said due to the proactiveness of the security personnel, they were resisted and two of the armed men were killed while others were injured.

The statement also said the gunmen came with the intention of causing mayhem and burning down the station and carting away arms and ammunition but did not succeed, adding that normalcy has been restored.

The Delta state police command also posted the information on its official Twitter handle.

Delta continues to witness unprecedented attacks on policemen and police facilities in the state in recent times.

Recall that a policeman was killed as some yet-to-be-identified gunmen, on Wednesday morning, May 26 attacked a routine police patrol team and set their van on fire in the state.

The incident occurred along Otulu Junction, Akwukwu-Igbo, Aniocha North local government area causing panic among residents.

Three weeks ago, unknown gunmen killed three policemen during an attack on Nsukwa police divisional headquarters in Aniocha South local government area of Delta state.

The attack which occurred around 1.00 am on Sunday, May 16 led to the collapse of parts of the roof of the police station.

The attack also reportedly forced residents to flee to neighbouring communities.
