Following the Kaduna government's resolve to downsize the state civil service, Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Wednesday, May 26, announced the disengagement of not less than 19 political appointees.
In a statement containing the development, Governor El-Rufai said the 19 political appointees are the first set of public servants to be relieved of their duties while the rightsizing exercise continues, The Nation reports.
Among those affected are two special advisers, a deputy chief of staff, and several special assistants.
The governor expressed gratitude over the services of the departing officials in the state and wished them well in their future endeavours, Daily Nigerian also reported.
Earlier, El-Rufai was forced to take what might be seen as a very harsh decision on protesting civil servants.
In a statement published via Facebook on Tuesday, May 18, the state government announced its resolve to immediately dismiss all civil servants who took part in what it referred to as an unlawful strike.
This decision which came through the ministry of health in the state specifically affects nurses on level 14.

While their salaries would be given as extraordinary occupational allowances to the health workers who are at their duty posts, the ministry had been ordered to advertise vacancies for the immediate employment of new nurses to replace those sacked.
Even more, the government threatened that the same punishment will be meted to all academic staff of KASU who fail to report for work.
The statement partly read:
"The authorities of KASU are to submit a copy of the attendance register for all categories of staff daily to the secretary to the state government and the commissioner of education."
Before this, the decision of the administration of El-Rufai to disengage 4000 workers across the 23 local government areas of Kaduna state sparked outrage.
On Tuesday, April 6, over 4000 staff across 23 local governments received their disengagement letters.
