Stop Drinking: Hisbah Confiscates 8,400 Bottles of Beer in Kano state

- Beer drinkers in Kano state might not have access to their drinks following the confiscation of 8,400 bottles

More bottles of beer have been seized in Kano by the state Hisbah Board. According to Hisbah, the 8,400 bottles of beer were confiscated in Dawakin Kudu and Kura local government Areas.

The commander­­-general of the board, Dr. Harun Ibn-Sina, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday in Kano, Vanguard reports.

According to the statement “the vehicle was coming from Zaria to Kano when Hisbah officials arrested the driver, The Nation added.

The commander also said that once the investigation was concluded, the suspects would be charged to court.

In another report, all politicians in Kano must pay Zakat before contesting any election in the northern state, according to the Zakat and Hisbah Commission.

This was made known by Safiyanu Abubakar, the director-general of the commission on Thursday, March 25. Abubakar while inaugurating an 11-man task force committee for the collection of Zakat explained that the move is a deliberate one to help the needy in the state.

Zakat, one of the Five Pillars of Islam is an obligation required by Muslims to donate part of their wealth each year to charity.

Also, Legit.ng reported that no fewer than 260 crates of alcoholic drinks had been seized from hotels and nightclubs by the Hisbah department in Bauchi state as part of its effort to enforce the Sharia Islamic code.

Aminu Balarabe, the permanent commissioner in charge of Hisbah and Sharia implementation, made this known while displaying the commodity in Bauchi on Tuesday, February 2. Explaining the reason behind the development, the commissioner said the sales and consumption of alcoholic drinks are forbidden according to Sharia law implemented in 2003.

He said the only places where sales and consumption of alcoholic drinks are allowed are the military, police barracks, and national parks.

In a related development, human rights activist, Shehu Sani, criticised the Kano state Hisbah Board for ordering the suspension of the term Black Friday by retail outlets in the state.

The Hisbah Board also barred a private radio station in Kano from running advertisements using the outlawed phrase.

The Sharia law enforcement agency raised concerns over tagging Friday as black, saying the majority of the inhabitants of Kano state are Muslims that consider Friday as a Holy Day.
