A message has been sent to President Muhammadu Buhari by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF). The message is simple: Protect the nation’s territorial integrity and secure the lives of Nigerians.

Failure to do this, the forum asked him to accept that he is incapable of leading the nation.

Going further, the forum condemned what it described as an attack on Fulanis in some part of the south, claiming northern people now live in fear, Tribune reports.

The statement read in part:

“The forum restates that the North will not be cowed and stampeded into escorting political ambitions of politicians at the cost of its rights, security and dignity.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng also reported the House of Representatives is considering a bill to scrap the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

The bill titled the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Alteration Bill, 2020, was sponsored by Awaji-Inombek Abiante.

The proposed legislation which is seeking to repeal the NYSC Act is billed for the second reading in the House.

Abiante explained that banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of insecurity justified the intent of the bill.

Also, Professor Ango Abdullahi, the chairman of NEF declared that the north would not vote along ethnicity and faith lines in choosing leaders in 2023.
