The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom has reacted to rumours that Governor Udom Emmanuel is set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Borono Bassey, the publicity secretary of the PDP in the state, on Tuesday, May 25, described the claims as false alarm given by enemies of the party, Leadership reports.
Boasting to journalists in the state that no PDP governor with laudable records can ever defect to other parties, Bassey noted that the APC is wishing that Emmanuel will join its camp to save it from ruin.
Speaking further, he said that the aim of such mischief-makers is to heat up the polity and trigger agitations in the state.
In specific terms, he made it clear that being a leader with vision, the governor has no reason to leave the party for the APC.

Bassey said:
"As a party, we wish to affirm that His Excellency, Udom Emmanuel, a leader with a towering record of integrity and performance, remains a very committed and dutiful leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State.
“We submit that for a Governor whose support base across all strata of the Party is unshakeable as the famed Rock of Gibraltar, we cannot conceive the faintest of reasons why Governor Emmanuel would contemplate any form of movement, even in thoughts from the PDP..."
Meanwhile, Mike Etaba, a member of the House of Representatives from Cross River, had dumped the PDP for the ruling APC.
Etaba said his decision was informed by the defection of Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state from the PDP to the APC.
