Military Plane Crash: Southwest Leaders Pay Condolence Visit to President Buhari

Southwest leaders on Monday, May 24, paid a condolence visit to Present Muhammadu Buhari over the death of the Chief of Army Staf (COAS), Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 other military officers.

Bashir Ahmad, the president’s personal assistant on new media, shared photos of the visit on his verified Twitter handle.

Recall that the late chief of army staff died alongside other officers in a plane crash on Friday, May 21.

The former All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman Chief Bisi Akande and national leader of the party Asiwaju Bola Tinubu led the delegation to the State House, Abuja.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Buhari was deeply saddened over the crash that claimed the life of Attahiru, and other military officers.

The Nigerian leader's reaction was contained in a statement released by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, late Friday, May 21.

Meanwhile, the United States Mission in Nigeria has joined the country in mourning the death of Attahiru, describing it as a tremendous loss.

The US Mission's condolence was contained in a statement posted on its Twitter page on the night of the unfortunate incident.

Similarly, Catriona Laing, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, also reacted to the incident.

In a related development, President Buhari declared Monday, May 24, a work-free day for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces in honour of Lt. Gen. Attahiru.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, said this in a statement on Sunday, May 23.

The Nigerian leader also ordered the national flag to be flown at half-mast in all public buildings, facilities, and official residences from Monday, May 24 to Wednesday, May 26th.
