Officer Who Died in Ill-Fated Crash Planned to Distribute School Uniforms, Books in Kaduna

- Nigerians continue to mourn over the ill-fated crash that killed some military officers on Friday, May 21

Major Nura Hamza, one of the officers who died in the Kaduna plane crash on Friday, May 21 was a philanthropist, according to those who knew him well.

According to multiple social media users close to the deceased, he planned to distribute uniforms and books to students at Salim School in Kaduna on Monday, May 24 after his official assignment in the northwest state.

Legit.ng had reported that were flying aboard a Beachcraft 350 to Kaduna to attend the Passing Out Parade of young soldiers from Nigeria Army Depot in Zaria before the crash occurred.

Those in the know say, Major Hamza, finance officer of the Late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General I. Attahiru, had plans to proceed to the school after the official assignment.

Legit.ng gathered that the uniforms and books were specifically for new intakes in the school, especially for those who are orphans.

Late Major Hamza is also the founder of Islamic Hospital Kawo, Kaduna. A hospital that treats indigents free of charge. He graduated from the Economics department, Bayero University, Kano state in 2002.

Some of those who knew the officer have been mourning him on social media.

Maidalan Kabi wrote on Twitter:

“Major Nura Hamza, you were not just a soldier but a philanthropist.. your service to your community humanity, and the country will never be forgotten. Rest on Sir.”

Aliyu Abubakar wrote:

“Major Nura Hamza, a friend, was also among the departed. A fine officer and gentleman! We can only say what will please Almighty Allah, the giver, and taker of lives. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”

Muhammed Rabiu Idris Kura wrote:

“RIP Major Nura Hamza. founder, Islamic hospital Kawo Kaduna. May Allah forgive you all of your shortcomings. Ameen.”

Shortly before his death, the late COAS had charged officers and men of the Directorate of Army Public Relations on the need to enhance their capacity on effective information management.

He gave the charge on Wednesday, May 19, while declaring open a 3-day capacity building workshop organized for public relations officers by the Directorate of Army Public Relations in Abuja.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that Attahiru becomes the second Nigerian Chief of Army Staff to die in a plane crash while in office.

The first was Lt. Colonel Joseph Akahan who was Chief of Army Staff from May 1967 until May 1968, when he was killed in a helicopter crash during the Nigerian Civil War.
