The presidency has reacted to a media report insinuating Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is sick as he was sighted at the Reddington Hospital, Lagos on Saturday, May 22.
A report by Sahara Reporters had claimed that Osinbajo's presence at the hospital created "unexplained tension" and "raised questions as to the reason the number two citizen was there."
Citing another media report, Sahara Reporters stated that "the panic that trailed the VP’s presence at the Reddington Hospital worsened, following his absence at the funeral ceremonies of the late Chief of Staff, Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 other officers, who died in the ill-fated military aircraft that crashed in Kaduna."
The report added:
"Since it is not in the Vice President’s character to miss occasions of great magnitude, people who know him well have become quite baffled, and asking the question regarding to state of health."
However, Laolu Akande, the senior special assistant on media and publicity, debunked the report in a tweet seen by Legit.ng on Monday, May 24.
Contrary to the insinuations in the report filed by Sahara Reporters, Akande said the vice president was at the Lagos hospital for his medical check-up "like he does annually".
The spokesman noted that Osinbajo was back in Abuja in the evening of the same day, Saturday, May 22.
Legit.ng gathers that the vice president had also on Friday afternoon, May 21, attended and spoke at the Evening of Tributes for Media Gurus.
The vice president, Legit.ng learnt, has been having his annual medical check-up at the same hospital for years.
