The Southwest chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has kicked against agitations for secession across the nation.
A statement released by Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun state on Twitter indicates the APC leaders took the decision in a meeting in Lagos on Sunday, May 23.
The APC chieftains said a united and peaceful Nigeria should remain the pursuit of all well-meaning leaders.
Legit.ng gathers that meeting was attended by the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, southwest governors, former interim national chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and other prominent stakeholders.
Governor Oyetola said the southwest APC leaders also endorsed the Southern Governors Forum’s position on the ban of open grazing.
He said the APC leaders urged the federal government to provide support for states to set up ranches as part of efforts to end the perennial farmers-herders crisis.
On the issue of insecurity, the Osun state governor said the southwest leaders asked the federal government to allocate more resources to enable the military and other security agencies to tackle the security challenges confronting the country.
Debodizle Adeleke, a personal assistant to the governor of Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun, also shared the details of the meeting.

Ondo and Ekiti state governors Rotimi Akeredolu and Kayode Fayemi were absent at the crucial meeting. No explanations have emerged yet for why.
In a related development, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria's former president, has condemned the calls for the nation's breakup by some ethnic advocates.
The former president described calls for Nigeria's break up as unmindful and insensitive to the plight of the minority groups in the country, a statement sent on Wednesday, May 5, to Legit.ng by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, indicates.
Obasanjo made the observation when he received the Tiv Professional Group from Benue state who paid him a courtesy visit in Abeokuta.
