Gunmen Attack Another Police Station in Southeast State, Kill Officer

- Some unknown gunmen have struck in again in the southeastern Ebonyi state

- The criminals attacked a police station on Sunday morning, May 23, and killed one of the officers on duty

- The police command in Ebonyi, however, said the attack was repelled and one of the criminals also killed

Some gunmen in the early hours of Sunday, May 23, attacked Ugbuodo police station in Ebonyi local government area, Ebonyi state, killing one police officer.

Premium Times reported that the gunmen were, however, repelled by the policemen.

The Ebonyi police command said in a statement that the police succeeded in killing one of the attackers.

The police command added that weapons were recovered from the slain criminal while his colleagues escaped with bullet wounds.

Similarly, gunmen recently attacked the Abaomege police station in Onicha local government area of Ebonyi state.

It was gathered that the assailants attacked the facility on Saturday, May 1, shooting sporadically, but were unable to gain full access to the station.

Following the attack, sophisticated arms were reportedly carted away by the gunmen while they killed an officer on duty.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved new security measures for the southeast and south-south regions of the country in what seems like an attempt to check the escalating attacks on police formations in the zones.

Buhari made the decision following eleven days of security meetings at the presidential villa, Abuja which ended on Tuesday, May 11.

The acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, informed journalists about the new security measures in the regions.

In other news, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state, who is also the chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum has revealed that the region is not ready to secede from Nigeria.
