Photos Show Moment Buhari Received Briefing on Plane Crash that Killed Army Boss Attahiru

Following the death of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru and other military officers, President Muhammadu Buhari was on Friday, May 21, briefed by Bashir Magashi, the minister of defence.

The briefing was on the unfortunate plane crash that claimed the lives of Attahiru and other senior officers in Kaduna. It held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Magashi was accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. LEO Irabor, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Isiaka Amao and other senior officers.

Others at the briefing were secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, and director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi.

Photos from the meeting were shared on Facebook by one of the president's aides, Femi Adesina.

Burial arrangements

The Nigerian Army had earlier announced that the burial proceedings for the late COAS and six other senior staff will commence on Saturday, May 22, in Abuja.

Legit.ng reported that Mohammed Yerima, the army spokesman, disclosed that the event would commence by 10 a.m. at the National Mosque and National Christian Centre.

The interment will also hold on the same day at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja at 1 p.m.

The COAS was said to be on his way to Kaduna to attend the passing-out parade of army recruits scheduled for Saturday. Unfortunately, he and 10 other officers did not make it as their aircraft crashed.

Nigerian president reacts

President Buhari had expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident. According to him, the death of Attahiru and other military officers was a mortal blow to Nigeria's underbelly.

He also condoled with the families of the deceased.
