Apart from the mosque, the ministry said it would also provide solar-powered boreholes and overhead tanks, among other amenities for the community, The Cable also reported.

Contrary to the rumours that the memo containing the award of the mosque contract was leaked, the ministry said it is an official document and it is available for public scrutiny and review.

Legit.ng notes that there has been a nationwide outrage as to why the Ministry of Agriculture would award a contract for the construction of a mosque.

The ministry has, however, defended its action saying it received appropriate approval, carried out due needs assessment and ensured due process in the execution of the project.

It also advised the media to observe due diligence and restraint before publishing a story of that nature to avoid raising a false alarm and creating unnecessary rancour in the public space.
