Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state has assured aggrieved southeast youths that governors in the region will address the issue of marginalisation.
Umahi, who made this promise to the youths in Abuja on Thursday, May 20, said if he and his colleagues do not satisfactorily deal with the issue, they will join them in their protest, Punch reports.
He, therefore, urged the youths to exercise patience with southeast governor as they get to work.
The governor noted that at the moment, he has met with stakeholder, including elders and religious leaders on the readiness to solve the problem
He said:
“I have deployed the widows to fast and pray; I have deployed the elders’ council to go round and talk to our people. I have deployed founding fathers to go and talk."
The Ebonyi governor advised the youths to desist from casting aspersions at President Muhammadu Buhari as this is nothing but foolishness and outside the confines of lawful protest.
His words:
"...we won’t support you to insult the President, leaders of the South-East and other leaders. That is not agitation; that is foolishness. Agitation is agitation.”
Meanwhile, Umahi had revealed the cause of Nigeria's current security woes. According to the Ebonyi state governor, the present insecurity in the country is a result of the failure of past leaders who failed to address the future of young people.
He said the Buhari administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) should not be blamed for the security problems.
