Obasanjo Presidential Library Confirms Explosion, Gives Fresh Updates

- The explosion at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library on Thursday, May 20, led to the death of one person

- Confirming the tragic incident, the Library's management said another person was seriously injured

The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) has confirmed that there was a gas explosion at the complex on Thursday, May 20.

A statement sent to Legit.ng by Vitalis Ortese, the managing director of OOPL on Friday, May 21, indicates that the incident happened when two technical vendors were conducting routine servicing of the air conditioning units.

Ortese also confirmed that the explosion led to the death of one of the vendors while the second vendor was seriously injured.

He explained that the Library's emergency team swiftly moved to prevent further damages and took the injured victims to the hospital.

The OOPL managing director noted that normalcy has been restored after clearance by the fire services authorities.

The Library management also gave assurance that all visitors to the library and staff present on the premises at the time of the incident are safe.

It condoled with the families of the victim that died while sending a get well message to the injured.

Meanwhile, the Ogun state commissioner of police, Edward Ajogun, has dismissed the bomb blast claim following the explosion at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.

Ajogun while conducting a probe panel around the scene of the incident dismissed the reports claiming that the explosion was connected to a bomb.

The commissioner said it was just a gas explosion, adding that they are trying to ascertain if it was a human error or technical fault in the cylinders.

In a related development, a gas explosion that rocked the Amuwo-Odofin local government area of Lagos state on Tuesday, April 13, left many persons injured.

The incident which took place at Iyasoko street Agboju, Amuwo-Odofin by 7 pm was confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

Similarly, Legit.ng previously reported that a gas explosion on Tuesday, May 18, rocked the Conference Hotel on Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, killing a technician and another yet-to-be-identified person.

The explosion, which occurred around noontime, left three others with varying degrees of injuries.

The hotel sited opposite the Obasanjo Presidential Library is owned by former Ogun state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
