Nigerian Lady Teaches Women How to Become Carpenters and Tailors, Photos Light Up Social Media

- A Nigerian lady is helping women to get out of poverty as she uses her platform, Durian Nigeria, to train them to master self-reliant crafts

A Nigerian lady, Tony Joy, is using her NGO named Durian Nigeria to empower women in rural areas so they can become dependable.

Recall that with the organisation's craft village in Imafon, Ondo state, ladies in the community were also taught how they can make crafts out of bamboo, skincare products out of cocoa pud husks, and turn fabric waste into bags.

In a LinkedIn post, the young lady said that the organisation is exploring more approaches to skill up women in many areas so that their development is sure.

She revealed that Durian Nigeria has a fashion centre where clothes are not only designed but waste fabrics from the production process recycled for other products.

In addition to that, the organisation also teaches women the art of skincare production. According to Joy, the women are connected to the marketplace so their skills can be financially rewarding.

A part of her post read:

“This year, we are looking forward to training another batch of women for one year and connecting them to the right marketplaces where their skills and expertise are needed.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that photos of a woman recycling waste plastic bottles into brooms had gone viral on Twitter after it was shared by the handle, @phalanndwa6.

In the photos, the woman could be seen shredding the water bottles with scissors. Other snaps show shreds of the material affixed to different sticks.

Many people who engaged with the post said that hers is a perfect example that Africa's game at innovation is unparalleled.
