The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted the defection of Governor Ben Ayade to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party’s south-south zonal chairman, Dan Orbih, said it is regrettable and unfortunate that the Cross River state governor decided to join a party that has unleashed hardship on millions of Nigerians.
Orbih in a telephone conversation with Vanguard questioned why Ayade decided to leave a party whose platform he won the governorship election.
The PDP chieftain called for laws that will make it mandatory for politicians who hold elective offices to relinquish their seats upon defection.

He said:
''It is time for lawmakers to come out clear on this. You can’t ride the platform of a party to success and turn around to take the mandate away to another party.
“A law should come up to state clearly that if an elected leader is leaving the party on whose platform he was elected; he should relinquish the mandate. This will help sanitize our politics.''
Meanwhile, Ben Ayade has credited President Muhammadu Buhari for his decision to dump the opposition PDP for the APC.
The Cross River state governor said the president has a nationalistic view and hence, the reason why he joined the APC, Vanguard reported.
According to him, it is necessary for everybody to join the president to move the country forward. He said all governors should leave politics aside and do everything to commit themselves to the vision of the country.
In another news, members of the APC are delighted over the defection of Governor Ben Ayade to its fold.
One of those who have expressed overwhelming pleasure over this development is the minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo.
Via his Twitter page on Thursday, May 20, the minister referred to Ayade as one of the most progressive, enlightened, and accomplished Nigerian governors.
