How It All Started: Keyamo Reveals Beginning of Governor Ayade’s Defection Journey

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are delighted over the defection of Governor Ben Ayade to its fold.

One of those who have expressed overwhelming pleasure over this development is the minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo.

Via his Twitter page on Thursday, May 20, the minister referred to Ayade as one of the most progressive, enlightened and accomplished Nigerian governors.

He also revealed that the governor's defection journey started when he paid a private visit to him in Calabar, the state capital about a week ago.

The minister said being that the Cross River governor is from the south-south like himself, this was a memorable day that they have been waiting for over a long time.

Keyamo put his excitement in these words:

"I welcome one of the most cerebral, the most progressive, the most enlightened, and the most accomplished governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, to the fold of the progressives.
"As my elder brother & friend from the S/South Region, this is the day we have been waiting for."

Earlier, some governors on the platform of the APC on Wednesday, May 19, arrived in Calabar to persuade Governor Ayade to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The APC delegation was led by Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni, who is also the national caretaker committee chairman of the party.

Legit.ng gathered that Buni arrived in Calabar on Wednesday evening to join his Imo counterpart, Governor Hope Uzodinma who had been on ground.

It was learnt that the governor of Ebonyi state, Dave Umahai and some other governors of the APC were also expected to arrive the state.

Seven APC governors are expected to meet with Ayade on Thursday morning, May 20, while those from Ekiti, Plateau, and Yobe states had also arrived Calabar.

The governors were in the state to woo Ayade to move over to APC in view of the crisis rocking the PDP in the state.
