US Mission to the African Union Organises Webinar on Intellectual Property Rights
The United States Mission to the African Union (USAU) is organising a webinar on Intellectual Property Rights. The event will take place digitally (via Zoom) on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, from 3.30pm-6pm Ethiopia Time.

The event's central theme is “Intellectual Property Rights Forum - Exploring How African Creative Artists Can Protect Their Work”.
It will feature the launching of the Intellectual Property Rights Forum by the US Mission to the African Union.
The programme is hosted by the US Mission to the African Union and the Global Startup Ecosystem (GSE).
The agenda for the program is as follows:
3.30 -3.35pm: USAU Welcome Remarks and Introduction of USAU Ambassador by PAO Rubani Trimiew
3.35-3.45: Keynote 1: USAU Ambassador Jessye Lapenn
3.45- 4.10: Keynote 2: Presentation of AfCFTA on Intellectual Property Rights, Fikremarkos Merso, Senior Intellectual Property Expert, AfCFTA Secretariat
4.10-4.15: Break
4.15pm-5pm: PANEL 1: Legal IP “How IP Law and Enforcement Protects Inventors of Cultural and Creative Endeavors”
The first panel will be moderated by Anand Ramaswamy and feature Professor April Dawson, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Pedagogical Enrichment and Professor of Law at the North Carolina Central University School of Law, Dr Biruk Haile, Associate Dean for graduate programs, Addis Ababa University College of Law and Governance Studies and Professor of Intellectual Property Law.
Other panellists include Professor Mimi Afshar, the Director of the Intellectual Property Clinic at the North Carolina Central University School of Law and AU IP Technical Expert, Fikremarkos Merso (Senior IP Expert, AfCFTA).

5.10pm-5.50pm: PANEL 2: Future of IP- Perspectives of SME Yali/MWF Alums “How IPR has impacted Your work”
The second panel will be moderated by Rubani Trimiew. Panellists include Game Bantsi (MW fellow Botswana 2016, Recording hip-hop artist), Abel Dzobo (MW Fellow Zimbabwe 2017, Film Director/Producer at KreativeHive Corps/CEO HELA TV Nasreen, and Ali Mohamed (MW Fellow Kenya 2018, Co-Founder and CFO at Cherehani Africa).
