BREAKING: 3 policemen reported dead as gunmen burn down Delta police station
- Delta is the latest state to be attacked by unknown gunmen in what looks like a coordinated attack on southern Nigerian states
- Three policemen were said to have been killed during the attack, while members of the community were said to have fled
- Police authorities in the state have promised that those responsible for the attack will be apprehended and brought to book

The Nation is reporting that unknown gunmen have killed three policemen during an attack on Nsukwa police divisional headquarters in Aniocha South local government area of Delta state.
According to the report, the attack which occurred around 1.00 am on Sunday, May 16 led to the collapse of parts of the roof of the police station.
The attack also reportedly forced residents to flee to neighbouring communities.

It was learnt that the gunmen, who arrived on foot, launched the attack from a thick forest behind the station.
A community source who spoke to Vanguard said:
“They were four policemen on guard; they shot three police officers dead, that’s the one we saw for now while others got injured.
“Even police motorcycles at the premises were burnt also. They destroyed vehicles and carted away their ammunition.”
Also speaking, the state commissioner of police, Ari Muhammed Ali who confirmed the attack, said the command lost three officers, describing it as a black day for the command.
Ali held that the culprits would be brought to book, adding that investigation has already commenced and we are getting useful information.
The police boss who spoke further expressed the possibility of having collaborators from those who have been perpetrating similar attacks in the southeast.
He said:
“The modus operandi of this attack is very similar to what has been happening in the southeast. However, we will get to the root of this matter and bring the suspects to book.”
Recall that two divisional police stations in Akwa Ibom state were attacked on Wednesday morning, May 12 by unknown gunmen.
One of the police stations was attacked again making it the second time the station will suffer such an attack in the space of two weeks.
Similarly, unknown gunmen on Wednesday night, May 5 attacked Obosi police station in Idemili North local government area of Anambra state.
The armed men killed two police inspectors, freed all detainees in the cell and burnt down the station.
