Eid-el-fitr: IGP Usman Alkali orders tight security across Nigeria

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered a nationwide deployment of police officers to ensure adequate security ahead of the 2021 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The spokesperson for the Nigeria police force, Frank Mba in a statement sent to Legit.ng, disclosed that the IGP noted that the nation's security ecosystem is challenged.
He, however, stated that challenges in the country can be overcome.
Akali reassured the citizens that the force under his new policing vision is already implementing new security solutions aimed at tackling crimes in the country.
He enjoined citizens to support the police to stage a common front in tackling the challenges.

He equally directed commissioners of police in all the states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to ensure full enforcement of the COVID-19 protocols.
He, however, warned that police officers deployed for such enforcement must do so with the utmost professionalism.
Meanwhile, the IGP, on behalf of the entire officers of the Nigeria Police Force, congratulated all Muslim faithful in the country as they join the Muslim Ummah across the globe to mark this year's Eid-el-Fitr.
In another news, two divisional police stations in Akwa Ibom state were attacked on Wednesday morning, May 12 by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.
Plus TV Africa reports that the Ika police station was attacked again making it the second time the station will suffer such an attack in two weeks.
Also, the Etim Ekpo Divisional police station was invaded by the gunmen in what seems to be a coordinated attack. Television Continental also reported the incident via its Twitter page citing intelligence reports.
Meanwhile, the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said the federal government knows where bandits are located, but they are only being careful.
The minister further said the insinuation in some quarters that the government was clueless was unfounded, adding that the result of the Buhari administration's efforts would soon be evident.
