Insecurity: Troops, police overpower bandits in Kastina state

An attack by bandits on Magama Central Mosque in Jibia local government area of Katsina state has been repelled by military troops.
The Nigerian Army disclosed on Tuesday, May 11, that the attack on the mosque occurred when worshippers were offering their Ramadan prayers, The Punch reported.
A spokesperson for the army, General Mohammed Yerima, said the bandits stormed the venue on Monday morning, May 10, shooting sporadically and abducted the worshipers.
He disclosed that the troops of the Nigerian Army in conjunction with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force overpowered the bandits leading to the rescue of the abducted victims who have been reunited with their families.

Yerima said:
“The incident, which occurred in the early morning hours of May 10, 2021? witnessed a large number of bandits who came firing sporadically in an attempt to disrupt the prayers and abduct innocent worshippers were forced to withdraw in disarray as they were met with overwhelming firepower from a combined team comprising troops and police personnel who were tactically deployed in the town following earlier Intelligence received on the planned attack.''
According to The Nation, the spokesperson stated that after the failed attempts on the central Mosque, the criminals decided to raid a local mosque on the outskirts of Jibia Town where they kidnapped some persons.
He said the troops on learning about the incident, pursued the bandits, forcing them to abandon most of the hostages while fleeing with an unknown number.
Meanwhile, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has reacted to reports that a helicopter allegedly used in supplying arms, foodstuffs, and other supplies to bandits has been impounded in Niger state.
The forum stated that there is a need to conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain who is behind the alleged helicopter supply to criminals, The Tribune reported.
The group in a statement by its spokesperson, Emmanuel Yawe, stated that the reports about the mysterious helicopter have been around for some time.
