The statement stated that the plot was aimed at denting the rising political profile of Peter Obi.

Obienyem explained that the sinister plan is to accuse the former governor of funding the agitation for Biafra for election purposes.

He said:

"Watch out; soon you will see a group call a world press conference, speak of the insecurity in the land, appeal to anybody with information on the causes to help the Government solve it and finally drop the bomb by linking Mr. Peter Obi to the sponsorship of the Biafran movement through offer of money to sustain the agitation and use of Biafran boys for selfish end, including winning of elections.''

According to Vanguard, the spokesperson stated that the present plot to blackmail Peter Obi will fail just like previous attempts to tarnish his image did not succeed.

Meanwhile, the Lagos police command has disclosed that security operatives in the state are investigating Yoruba separatists groups and members of the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) over-reported threats to attack soft targets in the state.

The Nation reported that the Lagos commissioner of police, Hakeem Odumosu, made the disclosure during a security meeting in Ikeja on Monday, May 10.

The police boss stated that intelligence reports indicate criminals use uncompleted, abandoned buildings, empty lands to plan and execute their missions.

In another news, a Yoruba organisation, Yoruba Appraisal Forum (YAF), has strongly rejected the secessionist agitation being championed by Sunday Adeyemo, alias Sunday Igboho.

Sunday Igboho has been in the news recently following his call for the secession of the Yoruba nation from Nigeria.

However, the pan-Yoruba group, YAF, staged a protest on Thursday, May 6, in Ado Ekiti to condemn Igboho's secession agenda, describing such a move as treasonable and unpatriotic, Vanguard reported.
