A member of the House of Representatives, Dachung Bagos, who represents Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency has disclosed that there is a tendency for the National Assembly to begin impeachment moves against President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking with Channels TV on Thursday, April 29, Bagos noted that the Assembly might be forced to kick-start the process if the president fails to implement security resolutions made by the lower chamber.
In the lawmaker's opinion, Nigeria's security situation would not have gotten this bad if the executive arm of the federal government had earlier acted on at least 30% of the advice of the legislature.
His words:
“If the executive had implemented 30 percent of the resolution and advice the National Assembly has been giving, I can assure you we couldn’t have reached this level."
He went on to assert that the legislature, by virtue of its constitutional powers, will call for President Buhari's resignation if he refuses to work on the resolutions of the House made on Wednesday, April 28.
Bagos noted:
“After this summit, if nothing is done – brainstorming, spending resources to bring out solutions – if the Executive does not do anything after some months, then definitely we will call for the resignation of the resident.
“We have the power to impeach the President if he can no longer secure the lives and properties of Nigerians.”
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had gone fiery over the unthinkable and worsening security situation bedevilling most parts of Nigeria.
