Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has strongly rejected the statement by the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, that the ruling party which took over the reins of power in 2015 would rule the country beyond 2023.
Legit.ng reports that Tinubu made the statement after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday night, April 26.
He said the APC is loved by Nigerians and the party has bright chances of ruling the country beyond 2023.
However, Governor Makinde, the only governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the southwest, disagreed with Tinubu while speaking at the inauguration of the zonal executive of the party held at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, on Wednesday, April 28, Daily Sun reported.
The Oyo state governor charged the national leadership of the PDP to start making necessary arrangements ahead of the next general elections, saying that the opposition party must show the entire country that it is ready to take power back at the centre, PM News also reported.
He said:
“I read in the newspaper that the National Leader of APC, said APC will be in power beyond 2023. It is a big lie. Let them hear that from this southwest PDP congress, the redemption of Nigeria has started.
"Nigerians are tired of all the misgovernance of APC at the national level. Is it insecurity? Is it economic meltdown? Is it aloofness of the entire leadership of the government at the national level?”
"We in the PDP, starting from southwest, we are ready to provide leadership for our country.”

Meanwhile, ahead of the 2023 election, more supporters of Asiwaju Tinubu are drumming support for the presidential bid of the national leader of the APC.
Aminu Suleiman, the director-general of the Tinubu Support Organisation (TSO), said the north will prefer Tinubu to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
Suleiman who made the statement during a meeting of the organisation said this is because the APC is well accepted in the north, adding that Tinubu has what it takes to lead the country.
