They Came With Rocket Launcher, Police Reveal Those Behind Attack on Abia Police Command

- The police have reacted to an attack on one of its formations in Abia state

The Abia police command said hoodlums were responsible for the Monday, April 19, attack on Uzuakoli police station located in the Bende local government area of the state.

The spokesman of the command, Godfrey Ogbonna, disclosed that the perpetrators attacked the police station with dynamites and a rocket launcher.

According to PM News, he said the raid on the police formation happened at about 3am.

The police spokesperson noted that the attack led to the destruction of the station and some vehicles parked on the premises.

Ogbonna said:

“They used dynamite and rocket launcher to burn down the building, including private and official vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles parked on the premises.''

He explained that the policemen on duty attempted to repel the attack but their efforts were thwarted by the gunmen who used high calibre weapons, Vanguard reported.

The command stated that it has commenced an investigation into the incident with the aim of arresting the gunmen.

Meanwhile, the minister of police affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, has directed the police force to neutralise perpetrators of violence in the South East and elsewhere in Nigeria.

Dingyadi on Monday, April 19, disclosed that he has directed an intelligence-led kinetic operational against the culprits attacking police formations.

He commended the Zone 13, Zonal headquarters Anambra State police for repelling an attack on Monday night which led to the recovering of one general-purpose machine gun (GPMG) gun used by the hoodlums.

In another news, Gani Adams, the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, has again urged the acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, to urgently redeploy the Oyo commissioner of police, Ngozi Onadeko, for effective security of the state.

Adams made this known in a statement by his special assistant on media, Kehinde Aderemi, and seen by Legit.ng, on Thursday, April 15.

He said the meeting was to respond to the various security challenges in the area, adding that the delegation came to give an update on the security situation in Ibarapa and its environs.
