The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which happens to be the ruling party in Rivers state recorded an all-around victory in the local government elections conducted on Saturday, April 17.
In a series of tweets on Sunday, April 18, the party stated that it swept all the seats in the 23 local government areas as well as the 319 wards in the southsouth state.
According to the country's number one opposition party, the local government poll is a further demonstration of its political supremacy.
Speaking further, PDP explained that the election has shown that the All Progressives Congress (APC) only exists in the empty boasts of its few disoriented leaders.
Meanwhile, stakeholders in the PDP have been reacting to the recently-concluded zonal congresses of the party across the country.
One of the chieftains of the party from Osun state, Bamikole Omishore, stated that efforts must be made by the party leaders to ensure women and youths gain an appreciable foothold in the party.
Omishore, in a phone conversation with Legit.ng on Saturday, April 17 said:
''The PDP zonal congress to me is the beginning of the 2023 elections.
''If you feed the party structure with garbage, expect garbage output. If you don’t field enough competent youth and women to positions other than women leaders and youth leaders, don’t expect a miracle in 2023.
''Winning in 2023 is possible, but it will take doing things differently.''
The former aide to ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki noted that unless women and youths are giving the front stage in the affairs of the party, the PDP might as well forget winning the 2023 polls.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) said the ruling party will not participate in local government council elections in Rivers state.
Isaac Ogbobula the Caretaker Committee (CTC) chairman made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, January 30 in Port Harcourt.
According to Ogbobula, the state electoral process is faulty because the Rivers Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) membership was flawed.
